The Sprout Project proposed by Min-Hwei Junior College in 2021 that integrated with the goals of middle and long range school development plan. The project aims at "seeing youth, youth seeing-strengthening youth employment ability". Scrutinizing project execution in 2021, it was caused some affections by COVID-19. Therefore, certain contents of project were revised and adjusted partly so that expectation effects were impacted. However, we still worked hard to implement all aspects of performances. Highlights of the 2021 project implementation results are summarized as follows:

1. Special Achievement-Based Interdisciplinary Courses Achievement Performance

For dealing with the coming of senior society and improving masticatory force of elderly people, our school establishes the center of professionals training of dental care for elderly people mastication and deglutition. We have selected and cultivated certain students who have the capability of dental laboratory technology, long-term care, and nursing to construct interdisciplinary value-added learning. The head of department of technological and vocational education of Ministry of Education, Yang, Yu-Hui, she came and gave us precious advices. She gave recognition for these students who showed their patience, love, and professionals to demonstrate elderly people oral cleaning and labial tooth care techniques. After students completed professional training, they went to veteran's house and geriatric psychiatric day care center to implement oral care services for senior. Students show their professional skills help senior to decrease chokings and postpone senility. During the service process, these students with low-confidence found out their professionals could help many people that led them to get self-affirmation and self-worth. After these students come back to school, they have more positive attitudes toward learning as well as their learning outcome progress significantly.

2. Humanistic Concern Development and Retention Rate Are Gradually Rising

Our school principle upholds professional characteristics of health promotion and medical care. Based on the excellent traditions in the past time, we integrate traditions with modern educational views continually. We emphasis on professional qualities education of craftsman. Students are not only cultivated professional competences but also their attitudes development. First-grade students in our school have to take a life education course for cultivating the concepts of “respect for life and filial piety to parents.” We adhere to the principles of teaching quality innovation, social service practice, learning in order to practice. Therefore, all the students and faculty have grown continually and learned happily at our campus. We lead students to apply what they have learned in workplace as well as social services. Our graduates have earned positive affirmations from many directors of medical institutions. Taking Taipei City Hospital System and Dalin Tzu Chi Hospital for example, the retention rate of average from our graduates reaches to 88% that is higher than other schools in the last seven years. Besides, they have showed outstanding performance in their workplace.   

3. Multiple Certificates and Employment Capability

Professional licenses are a critical door opener on the way of career. Our school aims to cultivate talented person with professional technical ability. All Students have to acquire a professional or related technical license at least. Because epidemic influence in this year, we did not host the tests of “level C technician for beauty” and “certified family child care providers” of Ministry of Labor. We replaced the tests with professional license tutoring classes and mock tests for qualification exam in order to support students to improve their skills and help them to do self-learning examinations. Moreover, certificates passing rates were extremely high on basic life support (BLS), advanced cardiac life support (ACLS), and nursing aide.

4. The Number of Wing-Expansion Programs Have Grown Substantially

We match students’ internship workplace and their future workplace. Therefore, graduation means employment. We have promoted Wing-Expansion Programs of Ministry of Education in order to encourage corporates to develop the spirit of social responsibility. Corporates encourage those disadvantaged students who have excellent performance to join Wing-Expansion Programs by scholarship. As a result, we can achieve the goal of cultivating talents by public expenses for five years. In 2017, there were only two students to join Wing-Expansion Programs. Up to now, 424 students are benefit from programs via our efforts. The matching numbers of Wing-Expansion Programs from 2017 to 2021 have grown substantially. Those students who join Wing-Expansion Programs could obtain tuition and miscellaneous fees exemption from Ministry of Education and employment scholarship from corporates. During their learning period in Min-Hwei Junior College, they not only acquire support from government and corporates but also ease economic burden for their family. Consequently, these students could “have great employment opportunities” and “find an excellent job easily” that also help them to turn their life around and move toward their future.
